If you live in the UAE, you've felt this: you finally decide to buy a new TV in March, then watch the same model drop another 25% in November. The Emirates retail year has a rhythm β and once you can see it, your AED stretches a lot further.
This is the calendar our editors use for their own purchases. It's not a list of every promotion (there are far too many for that). It's a month-by-month view of the moments that consistently produce the deepest, most reliable discounts across major UAE retailers.
January β End of season, end of patience
The autumn-winter inventory that arrived in September has now been on the racks for three to four months. Fashion retailers like Namshi, 6th Street and Ounass move into final-clearance mode. Discounts of 40-70% are common, and the size availability β usually the catch β is at its best in the first ten days of the month.
"January isn't always the cheapest, but it's the right month for fashion if you actually need the size you're after." β Jenna M., SaverAE fashion editor
February β Dubai Shopping Festival
DSF is the most coordinated mall-and-online sale window in the country. Hypermarkets cut grocery basics, electronics see real (not theatrical) markdowns, and there are city-wide raffles. The trick is to compare a DSF "discounted" price against the same item in early January β sometimes it's a true cut, sometimes it's the same shelf price with a sticker.
March-April β Pre-Ramadan and Eid
Modest fashion, perfume gift sets, dates, and bulk grocery bundles get heavy promotion in the two weeks leading up to Ramadan. Iftar grocery bundles at Carrefour and Lulu are the genuine value here; the kaftan and abaya promotions at Sivvi, Namshi and Ounass tend to be deepest in the third week of Ramadan.
May-June β The quiet months (use them)
This is the off-season. Headline discounts shrink, but it's when bank-card stacking offers are at their best β banks compete to keep cards active before the summer travel rush. If you're buying a major appliance or piece of furniture, this is the window where Emirates NBD, ADCB and FAB all have meaningful flat-percentage offers running on Sharaf DG and IKEA UAE.
July-August β Dubai Summer Surprises
DSS produces the year's deepest fashion discounts and the most aggressive food and entertainment promotions. The catch: heat means foot traffic moves online. That's good β online inventory is broader and the same DSS price tags apply.
September β Back to school
Beyond the obvious uniforms and stationery, this is when we see strong tablet and laptop promotions, especially around the start of the school year. Carrefour, Lulu and Sharaf DG all bundle for families.
October β Pre-White Friday warm-up
Marketplaces start to "leak" their best November pricing two to three weeks early on a small selection of SKUs. If you've been watching a specific item, this is the month to set a price alert.
November β White Friday / Yellow Friday
The biggest sale window of the year. Noon's Yellow Friday and Amazon.ae's White Friday compete head-on, which is genuinely good for shoppers. Our advice: have your shortlist ready by the last week of October. The first 48 hours of the sale are when stock and price both align.
December β National Day & gifting
2 December National Day produces clearly themed 50%-off bundles, mostly on fashion, beauty and dining. The honest answer: many of these are not deeper than what you saw three weeks earlier on White Friday. The exception is hospitality β hotels, dining experiences and short staycations are genuinely cheaper here.
The simple rules we live by
Three things separate UAE shoppers who consistently save from those who feel like they're chasing deals:
- Maintain a shortlist. If you don't know what you want before a sale starts, the discount is just clutter.
- Stack three layers. A coupon, a bank-card discount, and a cashback program β none of these are mutually exclusive at most UAE retailers.
- Verify the "before" price. Tools like the SaverAE price tracker (or just a screenshot taken three weeks earlier) will tell you whether the headline discount is real.
None of this is about being cynical. UAE retailers run genuinely good promotions across the year β once you can see the pattern, you stop chasing and start choosing.
